Patti was nervous about meeting the relatives visiting from overseas. They had known that he he'd started out life as Patrick, but still....

Patti's mother had introduced Patti to her Aunt Joan's son William. "Why don't you show your cousin, your room Patti sweetie, while I catch up with your aunt over tea?

It had to be hard on you initially but you were a good daughter and followed my wished like a good girl.
And the fact you are getting an academic award in your freshman year?
You are now the kind of daughter any mother would be proud of.
I know I am.
I think you will look so cute getting your award in front of the entire school in this pretty dress.

Normally a boy would've resisted and fought back, but you can tell once he got put on the testosterone blockers, all that toxic masculinity is gone and he doesn't want to be rude or cause a commotion by arguing. Just timid, weak, and compliant from here on out.

It's a tough world. A lot is demanded of men. From women, that they conform to their role. Weakness is not forgiven.
Families cannot afford boys who do not prove their worth. They are sent to live with their grandparents and learn to adapt to a role that is more in line with their nature.
